Larry Plofsky (second generation and current owner) began in the mid 70’s to work and assist in the repair and towing business in Berwyn, IL. alongside Sid Plofsky who started the business back in 1956. Back then it was a franchised Standard Oil gas station with 5 bays and a small ½ ton Ford tow truck. By the early 90’s Sid had retired and Larry took over the operation growing it into a 24 hr. heavy duty truck repair, towing and wrecker service. In 2012, Fleet Care relocated to Oak Forest, Il. to an upgraded 12,000 sq. ft. repair center with a storage lot. In maintaining the family tradition, all of Larry’s three boys (third generation) can be found around the shop.
Since the 1956 start in the towing and recovery industry, Fleet Care has set high standards. They have continued to grow through multiple generations of family members.
It all started here when in 1956 Sid Plofsky bought Berwyn Lubritory located at 16th and East Ave in Berwyn, Illinois. The business remained in this location until August 1971 when Standard Oil terminated the lease.
To accommodate growth and still remain committed to the local customer base, Sid moved the business
1.5 miles south to Stanley and East.
Family has always been active in the business - Larry and his brother Jordan from the early 80's
Expansion in 1984 as the business focused on heavy duty truck repair and towing.
In 1988 Sid retired and Larry became the 2nd generation owner. To reflect the focus on heavy duty truck repair and towing, the business was renamed Fleet Care, Inc.
In 2011 for further expansion and to better cover the northern Illinois and Indiana market, Fleet Care moved to it's current location in Oak Forest, Illinois where three major expressway's ( I-80, I-57 and I-294) converge.
