Full Time and Part Time Heavy Duty Tow Truck Drivers

 

This job supports our heavy equipment towing, load recovery, impound, emergency response, and breakdown services, and as a result there are pressure points and challenges that require a person able to make multiple correct decisions under pressure.
We are currently looking for Full Time and Part Time Class A Tow Truck Operators for a heavy duty towing position. We work directly with various commercial accounts in providing towing, transport and recovery services. We are seeking self-motivated, hard-working, ethical people with problem solving abilities. You must be a team player, have good driving skills, have knowledge of the area, and above average common sense. We are seeking candidates that are flexible with scheduling and willing to work days, nights, and weekends.


Duties:

  • Operation of heavy duty tow truck to recover and transport vehicles

  • Loads, unloads, and secures equipment as needed

  • Hauls heavy duty equipment and supplies LOCALLY and long distances.

  • Performs daily commercial vehicle inspection and cleanliness in order to properly represent the company, reports any necessary repairs, and ensures completion of necessary repairs to vehicle to support operational safety

  • Efficiently travels to destinations using maps and directions for recovery of wrecked vehicles, delivery routing and calculates mileage and travel times using state and local road maps

  • Performs basic troubleshooting involving malfunctioning equipment at recovery site and completes minor repairs as needed

  • Performs road side clean-up and clearing of any glass, various vehicle parts, oils, fuel and other potentially harmful chemicals leaked after an accident according to state and local guidelines

  • Observes safety and security procedures; determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.

  • Adapts to changes in the work environment; manages competing demands; changes approach or method to best fit the situation; able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events

  • Completes assigned reports including inspection reports for outbound and inbound equipment and tow trucks, log book, and trip sheets and ensures reports meet all Department of Transportation and company record-keeping reports

  • Obtains required and accurate signatures on contracts, pick-up forms, and exchange forms.

  • Maintains a quality level driving record

  • Demonstrates excellent Customer Service Standards in all working scenarios including professional and courteous communication with customers and commercial accounts

  • Communicates efficiently with office staff to ensure accurate exchange of information in a timely fashion

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the manager
     

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License

  • Clean driving record; no moving violations in the previous 6 months, no more than one preventable accident or two moving violations within three consecutive years

  • Working knowledge of Motor Safety Regulations as well as state and local highway safety regulations within operating jurisdiction

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively

  • Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of and/or previous experience in properly operating delivery trucks, and towing tandem axle utility trailers and towable construction equipment within high traffic city zones and small, confined areas in a safe manner

  • Have basic mechanical aptitude: pull drive shaft, pin maxi, pull axels, air brake systems, etc.

  • Ability to perform minor equipment and vehicle repairs as needed to safely transport wrecked vehicles to destination
     

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to work in a jobsite environment for extensive periods of time to include lifting up to 50lbs, bending, squatting, crouching, reaching, crawling beneath vehicles, etc.

  • Must be physically able to work in extreme outdoor conditions including rain, wind, snow or extreme temperatures
     

Required license or certification:

  • Class A CDL
     

Required education:

  • High school or equivalent
     

Local candidates only:

  • Within 50 miles of Fleet Care
     

Required experience:

  • Heavy Duty Towing & Recovery : 1 year
